Olympian, Blake Aldridge, Is Off to Australia In Bid To Take On The World's Best At The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2012

Blake Aldridge Success in China

Blake Aldridge, Olympic Finalist 2008 and 3 Times European Cliff Diving Champion, is off to Australia to compete for a place in the Red Bull World Series Cliff Diving Tour. Initially, he will be in the Gold Coast at a training camp before competing in the Red Bull Qualification Competition taking place in Sydney on 1st - 5th February.

This is the only chance for those who, like Blake, have been invited to take part. This is especially exciting for Blake as, for the first time in its 3 year history, the Red Bull Series will take in two venues closer to home in Wales and Ireland.

For Blake this invitation follows a great initiation into Red Bull Cliff Diving last year in which following his success in the European Championships, Red Bull invited him as a wild card. As a result of his good performances in 2 of Red Bull's stops, La Rochelle and Yalta, in 2011 he was invited to take part in the qualifications for this years Tour.

Blake says, "I am both excited and nervous about these qualifications as a lot hangs on this. Should it go well I have the prospect of an amazing year to look forward to with Red Bull especially as I love this sport and with the prospect of performing in front of a home crowd. Should I fail to qualify it will be a case of a major rethink. This all means it will keep me on my toes, focused and will surely give an edge to my performance."

This world-class field of divers plunge 28 metres through the air, hitting the water at 85kph. The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is established as the pinnacle of high diving competition. In 2012 this unique championship will offer a world class spectacle in seven stops between June and September in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Eleven athletes will compete head-to-head for the prestigious World Series title.

Sponsors, Apogee Corporation, one of the UK's leading specialists in Digital Office Solutions and Managed Print Services, said, "Apogee has been delighted to following Blake's success as he embraces this challenging new sport. We fully support his efforts and are wishing him every success. Whilst being a comparative newcomer to 28 meters, he has devised a training plan and new complex dives that he feels can keep him very much in the running with the world class field he will be diving with and is aiming for the top prize. Having competed as a 10m diver to Olympic standard and having now performed so remarkably in this new discipline at 27m he must surely be the one to watch for 2012."
